The Nimble CD case, made from recycled CDs!
I’ve said in reviews, “This case is too bulky” or, “This case is heavy.” But how heavy? How bulky? That’s a question I’ve left up to the readers to guess or guestimate based on photos. It’s not good enough. I found myself researching a case recently and I just wanted to know how wide it was, how much it added to the size of the iPhone 12 mini. I couldn’t find that information anywhere, despite the popularity of the case.
So I decided to be better.
Starting with the iPhone 12 mini case reviews, which I’ve gone back and updated, I’ll have a new section, “Specs,” right at the top of the review. There you’ll be able to see just how mush bulk a case adds to the iPhone. At least one of mine adds an inconceivable 3mm per side! 6mm added to the width of the iPhone! For reference, the iPhone is just over 7mm thick, excluding the camera bump.
So, here’s a listing of my iPhone 12 mini cases with specs added. They’re in order of my current favorite to my current least favorite, with two more reviews on the way!

- Rhinoshield Crashguard NX (lightest case!)
That last one is definitely going to remain in last. It is just awful. I’m currently testing a fourth case, the Incipio Organicore compostable case, the first compostable case I’ve tested for the iPhone 12 mini (though I’ve tested others). I’m liking it, but you’ll just have to wait until the full review. I’ve also got an iPhone 12 mini case from Apple on the way.
At the top of the list is still the Nimble CD case. After testing other cases, I’ve only come to appreciate it more. It’s slim, easy to forget it’s there, only slightly hurts MagSafe performance, and stays on my phone, even on harsh falls. It really is deserving of that top spot, plus it’s made from recycled materials!
All case reviews in the future will have specs, including the upcoming Incipio Organicore and Apple Silicone case. I’ll even update my rankings once I finish my reviews on these cases. Hope this helps you pick out the perfect case!
