Disappointing news, folks, it seems Apple’s event may not be for the iPhone after all. Apple may push back their iPhone announcement until October, to be closer to the release of the iPhone 12. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a well-connected reporter of Apple news, the iPhone will be absent at Apple’s event next week. Instead, the event will focus solely on the new Apple Watch Series 6 and the iPad Air.
My disappointment really is immeasurable and my day is completely ruined. I’ve come to really hate the iPhone 11 size and design, and the iPhone 12 can’t come fast enough.
Apple’s event will be on September 15th. They’ve added the tagline “Time Flies” to media invites, though it doesn’t appear online. This could suggest it’s an Apple Watch-focused event.
What a roller coaster of emotions today has been.
Watch-Focused
We haven’t heard much about the new Apple Watch Series 6. Due to the lack of design leaks, it could copy much of the design, if not all of it, from the Apple Watch Series 4. Apple does like re-using their designs these days. The new Apple Watch will likely have the standard improvements, a new processor and perhaps better battery life. Apple will potentially add an oxygen sensor to the device, allowing wearers to get an accurate reading of their O2 levels during exercise. However, the current Apple Watch sensor would be capable of this with a software update. It’s thought that Apple hasn’t done this update yet because it’s not accurate enough to meet their standards.
Alongside the Apple Watch, we should see a new iPad Air with a smaller bezel. The Touch ID sensor may be moved to the power button. Apple may also release a smaller version of the HomePod, specifically to use as a voice assistant. While the first HomePod was an excellent speaker with a voice assistant tacked on, this would focus on Siri. We could also see over-ear AirPods (AirPods Studio), which will bring the features of the AirPods Pro into an over-ear design. Apple could also release a new version of the AirPower, a wireless charging device they canceled previously due to technical issues. Finally, Apple may release AirTags, their version of the Tile tracker.
However, sources say no iPhones. That’s incredibly disappointing.
