6.1-inch iPhone 12 Models Could Come First

Mockup of the 5.4" iPhone with the iPhone XS, iPhone 8, and iPhone SEI wasn’t very comfortable with the size of the 5.8-inch iPhone XS. However, I wanted to save money, and got the iPhone 11, a 6.1-inch iPhone with slightly larger bezels. I’ve been miserable. I can’t wait to replace it with something that actually fits in a pocket. Something that doesn’t stretch the limits of the phone pocket on my bag. I just want something I can use comfortably with one hand without relying on a case and Phone Loop. According to rumors, Apple’s answering those demands, with a squared-off iPhone design and a 5.4-insh iPhone 12.

I. Cannot. Wait.

But it looks like I’ll be waiting a little longer than those who will want the mid-sized iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, because according to supply chain monitors at Digitimes, the iPhone 12 will see a staggered release, with the largest 6.7-inch iPhone 12 and the smallest 5.4-inch iPhone 12 coming after the already delayed 6.1-inch iPhone 12.

Looks like I’ll be stuck with this thing even longer.

Digitimes claims that the PCB boards to be used as logic boards for the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro started manufacturing in July, while those for the 6.7-inch and 5.4-inch iPhone 12 models started in August. This suggests that, either there will be a delay, or the largest and smallest iPhones will face shortages at launch. For many who aren’t fast enough to get their iPhone orders in, that still means a delay.

This wouldn’t be the first time Apple has staggered launches of the iPhone. They released the iPhone XR a month later than the iPhone XS. Apple seems to do this for the phones they believe won’t be in as high demand, or to push users towards more premium models. Joke’s on Apple, though, users flocked to the iPhone XR and the iPhone 11 has been far more popular than the iPhone 11 Pro, which offered little over its far cheaper counterpart.

The iPhone 12 may be revealed as early as next week. We expect a launch in October, though Apple could surprise us by releasing some versions of the iPhone 12 earlier.

The iPhone 12 is expected to offer an upgraded display for the non-pro models, a new LiDAR sensor for the Pro models, a squared-off design reminiscent of the iPad Pro and iPhone 4/5, and potentially 5G connectivity. It could be Apple’s most exciting iPhone release since the iPhone X. Hopefully it’s worth the wait.
