The iPhone 14 Pro is here to shake it like a Polaroid picture. Users are reporting that their iPhone 14 Pro camera modules physically shake when they open third party camera apps like Snapchat and TikTok. Video shows that the shaking is so bad, it’s actually audible. People can hear their cameras vibrating.
These users report that the stock camera does not appear to have the wild shake, but these third party apps do. It has to do with the optical image sensor trying to compensate for what it believes is movement, when the phone is actually not moving much at all. It’s a serious bug that breaks a number of third party apps.
Mitigation
This does seem to be a software or firmware bug in iOS 16. That means Apple can fix it. Because the issue doesn’t come up in the stock camera app, it means it’s likely just an issue with either iOS or that these app developers need to update their apps. Many apps, like Instagram, allow you to post videos that you’ve recorded with another camera app, so you could always use the default camera as a workaround.
If you have an iPhone 14 Pro and you’re experiencing the issue, you should still reach out to Apple. This way, regardless of what the fix turns out to be, they’ll have record of the issue. They can also tell you if this is a hardware issue, as not every iPhone 14 Pro user is reporting the problem. It’s possible too that it’s only on the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

If you’re thinking of getting an iPhone 14 Pro, you may want to wait a few weeks to let Apple and app developers sort this out if you use these apps. However, if you don’t care about the camera in Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, or potentially other third party cameras, like Camera+, Halide, or FiLMiC Pro, then feel free to upgrade whenever you want.
