The New Siri Remote Seriously Doesn’t Have Find My Compatibility

Reading Time: < 1 minute.

The Apple TV 4K and new Siri RemoteThe new Siri Remote for the Apple TV won’t have a U1 chip. That means you won’t be able to locate it with Find My like you can your other Apple tech and AirTags. This is a serious missed opportunity. The remote is one of the things you lose the most frequently, and being able to just check your phone and get directions right to it would be incredibly useful. Apple’s already increasing the size and thickness of the remote to make it more ergonomic. The least they could have done is used some of that space for a U1 chip. Or, at the very least, an internal area where a person could add an AirTag.

Hopefully third parties make up for this. The original Siri remote gave way to a few third party cases because it featured so much glass. It was small, far too thin, and had glass on the top. Many people broke their remotes simply dropping them off of a coffee table. The new Siri Remote won’t have that problem, but third party manufacturers may still make silicone sleeves or cases for the remote, to add grip. If they do this, maybe they’ll be nice enough to add an area where you can insert an AirTag. You may also be able to use something like an adhesive mount, like this one from Moment, to attach an AirTag to just about anything.

Apple certainly missed an opportunity here, but the new Siri remote still looks like a drastic improvement over the original. The Apple TV with new Siri remote goes on sale next Friday, April 30th, and ships sometime in late may.
