iPhone Reveal This Week? Best Buy Employee Leaks What Could be 4.7″ iPhone Case

How they did a drop test without access to the unreleased phone is beyond me. Perhaps they used an iPhone 8?

Case manufacturers often make a gamble on upcoming phone designs. They use leaked models, measurements, photos, and dummy units to create phone cases without ever even knowing if the phone is real. This is because, when the phone is released, they can immediately sell to all those new customers. It’s especially important for iPhones, and a worthy gamble as well, as Apple hasn’t changed the design of their devices much in the past 6 years. Since the iPhone is so exceptionally fragile (still), and hard to grip on its own, every new iPhone user wants to get a case right away. The risk is worth it.

That’s why we can use case leaks to get an idea of what the next iPhone will look like. A Best Buy employee has leaked a case for a “4.7-inch 2020 iPhone,” which could be the upcoming budget model based on the iPhone 8 design.

The iPhone 8 in blackThis is likely the upcoming budget iPhone based on the iPhone 8, which still features large bezels and Touch ID. A 4.7″ iPhone with an iPhone 11-like design would be incredible, but it’s simply not what Apple’s willing to give us. This will likely be the iPhone 8 with upgraded internals from the iPhone 11. It may also feature an improved camera. From the looks of the cutout, this will likely still be a single camera setup. Little else is expected to change.

Release Date?

The Best Buy employee said the new case was not to be put on store shelves until April 5th, Monday. This could mean that Apple plans on revealing the upcoming iPhone this week, with a release early next week, or they’ll do a surprise reveal/release on Monday. The expected price is $399, which is considered “affordable” for new iPhones.

Amid the coronavirus outbreak, it’s unlikely people will be flocking to stores. Apple Stores across the country are still closed, so the company may decide to do online-only orders and preorders. If Apple’s making an announcement this week, it would likely be on Wednesday or Friday.
