One of the worst parts of modern cellphone design has to do with the extreme amount of waste they create. Sure, there’s the packaging, the parts of the phone that are non-recyclable, the massive amount of waste created in shipping, but there’s another cost, one I’ve mentioned briefly here before: cases. Modern smartphones are as thin as they can be with curved edges, making them very slippery. They’re also covered in glass, making them extremely fragile. Everyone has a case for their phone. And, over the one to three years the average person owns a phone for, you’ll likely go through a few cases. Those cases will inevitably end up in a landfill.
Your case is likely made of silicone, plastic, maybe wood? It;s likely not biodegradable, compostable, or recyclable though, is it? That’s where Nimble’s latest case comes in. The “Bottle Case” is made from plastic bottles. When you’re done with it, you can send it to Nimble for recycling and a 10% discount on your next recyclable phone protection.
Phone manufacturers may not care much about making durable phones and protecting the environment, but at least there’s one company that does.
I bought a case, and I’ll be reviewing it after a week or two of use.
The Bottle Case
Nimble’s bottle case is made of 100% recycled plastic. No new plastic is used in its construction. Around that plastic is an attractive cloth exterior. It’s slim, comes in non-plastic packaging, and 5% of the sales go towards charities to protect the ocean and the environment.
If you just can’t wait for my upcoming review, you can buy the Bottle Case from Nimble for $39.95.
