According to a source who spoke to Applesfera, The last day for the current generation AirPods will be March 28th. The next day, Apple’s AirPods 2 will go on sale. This is the only source claiming this, however, Buzzfeed claims sources told them Apple will hold an event on March 25th. However, Buzzfeed claims that it’s unlikely that next generation AirPods will be at this event. They also claim the iPad mini 5 will not be their either. Instead, Buzzfeed claims their sources told them that this will only be about Apple’s upcoming subscription news service.
Apple frequently holds events in late March. They’ll release products that aren’t often “main stage” products, which Apple typically saves for the fall. However, they’ve used spring and summer reveals for products like the iPad and new Macs.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple releases new AirPods, the AirPower charger, and a new iPad mini at an event this spring. However, despite this rumor, it does seem unlikely. The source of this rumor provided a long screenshot to make their case. It’s difficult to tell if it’s legitimate.
The second generation AirPods are expected to fit in the ear better. They’ll reportedly have support for “Hey Siri” and wireless charging in the case. Some sources have even claimed they would feature health tracking features. However, beyond Apple’s own admission that a wireless charging case is coming soon, none of these rumors have been properly verified. We’ll just have to wait until March 25th to see.
