Guilherme Rambo of 9to5Mac is at it again. He often goes through Apple’s latest betas for hints of their upcoming hardware. He’s found proof of the new iPad Pro, Apple Watch Series 4, and hints of upcoming products like wireless charging for AirPods. Now he has found evidence of a new Smart Battery Case for the iPhone XS in an Apple Watch beta.
The iPhone XS, like nearly every non-plus (or ‘R’) iPhone before it has disappointing battery life. Apple insists upon making their iPhones so thin that there’s no room for a decent sized battery. The battery in the iPhone XS is actually smaller than the one in the iPhone X. Despite efficiency improvements, the iPhone XS is has about the same battery life as the iPhone X if not a little worse.
Leaked images (below) show that Apple may release a new lumpy iPhone XS Smart Battery Case. Soon, iPhone XS users will have a new way to keep their phones lasting all day, besides charging it every moment you’re not using it, like I do.
New iPhone XS Battery Case
We don’t know what the back looks like, so it could still have an oddly placed bump. The bump on the back makes the case look pretty strange, but it’s oddly useful. It’s easy to grip, and, when you’re holding it, your iPhone won’t look much thicker than normal.
I Feel Silly
Apple didn’t include enough battery space in the iPhone. They also didn’t make the iPhone with additional shock absorption area to preserve the screen and rear glass in the event of a drop. Because of this, I feel the need to get an additional battery and a case. The “Smart Battery Case” from Apple doesn’t feel particularly smart for consumers. It’s certainly smart for Apple. They get to charge users extra for the battery life other cellphone manufacturers include in their—much lower—base price. Apple found a way to charge users twice for the battery life they should have had out of the box. As a result, gullible iPhone owners will line up for this battery case.
And I might be one of them.
