Today, Apple did two things. First, they announced that their fall event will be held on September 12th at 10am Pacific. We expect Apple will reveal the iPhone XS, a new Apple Watch, and potentially an update for Apple’s consumer-level Macs, the iMac, Mac Mini, and MacBook. Then Apple leaked their products.
Warning: Spoilers for the first episode of Apple’s Fall show below:
9top5Mac obtained images of the upcoming iPhone XS (yes, that’s its name), and the upcoming Apple Watch directly from Apple. The iPhone XS will come in two sizes, it will also come in a gorgeous gold color. The Apple Watch 4 will have a smaller bezels and a larger display.
Apple Watch Series 4
The Apple Watch Series 4 has been promised to be many impossible things. However, the fourth time’s the charm, the Apple Watch is finally getting that big update. Perhaps best of all? It’ll still work with all your existing straps.
The Apple Watch Series 4 will be thinner and feature a larger display (but same body size, like the iPhone X). It will likely feature improved waterproofing with a redesigned touch sensitive faux button. Just look at that digital crown! No more big red dot! It looks to be Apple’s most beautiful Apple Watch yet, and I can’t wait to get it on my wrist.
That new screen real estate won’t go to waste. Apple will introduce a new watch face that has at least 9 complications. In this leaked image, we can the time and date, as well as complications for weather, activity, music, calendar, and a timer. This watch face seems to feature four new corner type complications, as well as a curved piece for around the analog watch face. It’s a bit busy but for many people—myself included—a smart watch is all about getting the information you want at a glance.
iPhone XS
Me to myself: “Ok, Danielle, you just maxed out a credit card buying a new MacBook Pro. You cannot afford to buy an iPhone this year.”
Apple:
I was never a fan of the gold iPhone. It’s gaudy. The black iPhone is pure class, the white one is sheer elegance. Gold? Who are you trying to impress, a crazy Dutch spy movie villain? But this is different. A gold on black color scheme gives the gold iPhone a striking, elegant appearance. Unfortunately, we can only see the front of the iPhone X in this photo. The white iPhone X also has a black faceplate, so the back of this phone could still be a gaudy monstrosity.
You might have noticed something else about the above photo, besides the two unfortunately placed 9to5Mac watermarks. There are also two iPhone XS devices of different sizes in this photo. Apple will release a new larger iPhone XS alongside the 5.8″ iPhone XS, likely in a 6.5″ size. Both models will be called “iPhone XS,” with Apple breaking from tradition by ditching the “Plus” moniker. Instead, they’re treating this like the 13″ and 15″ MacBook Pro.
Apple Leak?
9to5Mac didn’t say how they got these photos from Apple. They do look like a higher quality than your average mock-up or rendering, and they look like Apple’s designs. 9to5Mac claims these are directly from Apple, but doesn’t say how they got the exclusive on them. However, I think it’s trustworthy. 9to5Mac is a reputable source of Apple news, and these devices look like real Apple products.
Apple will announce the iPhone XS and Apple Watch Series 4 officially in two weeks, on September 12th. There’s a lot we didn’t see here, Apple still has a chance to impress us in September, so stay tuned!
