Apple has a new video up to show just how easy it is to start sketching in the middle of a typed note on the iPad with the Apple Pencil. I actually didn’t even know how easy this was, usually I’d just add the drawing with the “Add Sketch” button. Tapping and holding with the Apple Pencil is much easier. Who knew?
When I first got my iPad Pro, I got an app, GoodNotes, for taking notes by hand. However, the combination of drawings and typed notes in the free Apple Notes app, included on every iPad, is surprisingly compelling. I could see actually taking notes with something like this. However, since I usually took notes in Harvard style outlines. This is easy and automatic in Pages, but not the Notes app. Fortunately, with the latest Pages update, adding handwritten notes or drawings into a document is easier than ever as well.
The iPad is quickly becoming a fantastic tool for taking notes or creating all kinds of documents. With apps like Affinity Photo and Pixelmator, the iPad is also a great creative tool. Apple’s dream of replacing traditional computers with iPads is becoming more real with every release.
